Joint Concert with Shavington High School - Thursday 22nd March

The Concert on Thursday 22nd March together with our Partnership School - Shavington High School - proved to be a great success again.
There were spots from the school's concert band brass group, guitar group, year 11 BTEC performance and a solo from Louise Green as well as the Junior and Youth Bands. A special mention must go to Claire Madeley and Katherine Blumer who stepped in at the last moment to cover the solos in Riverdance and did a superb job.

Altogether 646. 02 was raised to be shared by the school and the Co-operative bands.

On Saturday 17th March the Youth and Junior Bands together with a 3rd Band containing some family members of Youth Band members played at The Newcastle festival of Music.
The Junior Band won the 14 and under class, the Youth Band came 2nd in the 19 and under class. The Wind Band won the new open class.
The Junior Band then competed against other class winners but were just pipped by the 19 & under winners.
Lots of Band members took part in solos, duets, a family Class and ensembles during the day and there were some notable results - details of which have still to be collated.
Everyone enjoyed the day.
Congratulations to Andrew John who completed the London Marathon in 3 Hrs 56 Mins. What an achievement!
Andrew has completed the race to aid the band's funds and we are all very proud of him!
Marathon. Money raised for Band Funds 1,133.40 - a staggering amount.
Many thanks to all who supported by sponsoring or donating.
Also a  big thank you to Andrew John's workmates in Swindon & London.

"I just wanted to say a big Thank You for all the messages of support for the Virgin London marathon"
said Andrew
"It was a brilliant day for running with near perfect conditions. The atmosphere in London was fantastic and along the way there were a number of wind bands playing to encourage the  runners, obviously none of them as good as our own Co-operative Wind Band as I didn't hear a single rendition of 'The Eye of the Tiger'".

"Running London is a wonderful experience and my personal highlight is always crossing Tower Bridge almost at the half way point!"

"This is the third time I have completed the London marathon but this one was definitely the most special as I knew that with every stride I was helping raise money for a fantastic band and a very special group of children."
